There is always an opportunity to learn.

  1. Throughout this internship, I faced a lot of internal battles about my role. Although being a videographer seemed like an admirable position on paper, the work I was producing didn’t resonate with me or align with my personal aesthetic, leaving me feeling disconnected from the tasks at hand.

  2. While mundanely completing the projects assigned to me, I slowly began to notice the insights I was gaining that I could take with me beyond my work position. Simple skills that I would have never adapted or learned if it weren’t for this position: colour-coding my timeline (1), how to properly caption videos, creating and using the ‘essential graphics’ tab, and colour grading (although admittedly, I’m still trying to develop this skill significantly).

  3. This realization ultimately made me excited to work on my own video projects outside of my internship and utilize these skills, perpetually challenging my capabilities and knowledge. If it were not for this position at Conrad Grebel UC, I would not know of such a thing currently.

… and there is always opportunities you can create for yourself.

  1. Admittedly, I regret not creating more opportunities for myself throughout this role that would have sparked more of my interest

  2. It wasn’t until my internship was nearing its end that I realized I could have pursued more of my creative ideas, such as creating reels showcasing student life at Grebel (e.g., "day-in-the-life" content) or launching small challenges to promote the fun, close-knit community on social media.

  3. This experience taught me the importance of proactively seeking out and embracing opportunities, rather than letting time pass by under the belief that ‘something better will eventually come’.
